Wetland Watchers Trip to Newton Stewart

On 29th September the Wetland rangers met at the hall in Leswalt ready to go to Newton Stewart on a trip.

Kirsty, Katie and I went with Una. Mark, Dean and Euan went with Edith. Kyle, Billy and Jordan went with Robert and Kara and Bailey went with Jane.

The first thing we did was meet at the car park (at Blairmount park). We went with Dr Peter Hopkins who was taking us. Then we went a walk in the woods and saw a big pond.

We got on the minibus and went to some more woods (Wood of Cree). There we went a big long walk past huge waterfalls. The man also pointed out a squirrel home high in the trees.

When we came back we sat at the picnic tables and had lunch. After lunch we got on the minibus and went to some more woods. We saw sloes and crab apples and learned how fungi make twigs stick to other twigs.

We went on the minibus again but this time to the fisherman’s car park where there is a big lake where otters stay (but we didn’t see any).

We got on the minibus one more time to go to Glentrool visitor centre where Jane bought everyone a sweetie. Before we got back on the bus, we had a quiz. I was so close to winning! Robert said he would give whoever won a fiver. Kyle won.

After that we got back on the bus and went to the car park where all the cars were and went home with the same person who brought us. I had to get dropped off at Glenluce so that I could go and ride my pony but everyone else met back at the hall after a fun, interesting day out.
