Aldouran Wetland Watchers is a group of young people from Leswalt aged between 7 and 14 years who responded to an appeal from the Community Association to help in their own individual ways with the Wetland and Community Garden project so that it would have an input from all ages in the community. They number 13 at present and are willing to lend a hand with work in the garden e.g. weeding, planting etc. and also show an interest in the wetland and the flora and fauna contained therein. They are encouraged to put forward ideas about the future development and care of the site and to help protect the site from vandals etc. Since they were formed in June 2007, the group has been active throughout their school holidays – especially with Saturday morning work parties and helped raise funds for the project at our village Gala day in August 2007. |
